Let’s Meet And Break The Ice
If you’re looking for a home church in the East Valley area, you’ve found one! I’m sure there are several, but they may not have a website, blog, or any way to find them online.
My name is Patrick Sipperly, and I’m an author, Christian teacher of the word, and owner of the Arizona Video Company here in Chandler, Arizona. My wife and I have been believers for most of our lives and mostly in traditional churches. But for the last several years, we’ve gathered on Saturday afternoons with other believers in one of our houses for fellowship.
We aren’t affiliated with any denomination or organization. Instead, we are bound together by the word of God, the Holy Ghost, and love for one another. We view gathering together as a responsibility that all believers have to each other as the church of God and the body of Christ. Heb 10:24-25 tell us:
And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
Home Church vs Traditional Church
Fellowship in a home church tends to be less formal than most denominational gatherings. We don’t follow a set program, we may or may not sing, no offering plate is passed around, and we might meet somewhere other than a house. We might gather in a restaurant or a park for fellowship. Consider the flexible and interactive nature of the early church according to Acts 2:42-47:
And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. And all that believed were together, and had all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
What to Expect in a Home Church
As I mentioned, our time together might be less formal than a traditional church gathering, but not without order. What order do we follow? Here’s a snapshot of a gathering found in 1 Cor 14:26:
How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.
According to the scriptures, a church gathering is supposed to be interactive, like a spiritual potluck. Everyone contributes, so all are edified. That’s the goal of Christian fellowship: Let all things be done unto edifying.
Spiritual Gifts in a Home Church
The Church of Jesus Christ is not a business or a corporation. It’s a family and the body of Christ. Every born again believer is a member of that body and has been gifted to edify and serve that body by the power of the Holy Ghost. Remember what Peter preached on the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2:17-20:
And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:
Most American Christians are used to a pastor over a church who is responsible for nearly every aspect of the church, especially teaching and preaching. However, the Bible describes something very different. Pastors are just one of several gifts given to the church. In Rom 12, 1 Cor 12, and Eph 4, we read about these other gifts and their contributions. Here’s what we read in 1 Cor 12:27-31:
Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.
That more excellent way is charity, something we should always have with everyone. And having fervent charity among ourselves, let us earnestly desire the gifts God wants for us to edify the church!
With everyone contributing, we have more of a discussion format. This means if something is taught openly, it’s commented on or questioned openly as well. And as we are led by the Spirit, may we only preach and teach the word without adding to it or taking away from it.
Our Personal Daily Walk With God
Our effectiveness and use in the church depend greatly on our own personal relationship with Jesus Christ. If we don’t often engage with the Lord through prayer, reading, and studying the word, we won’t be growing in Christ. We won’t be spiritually minded through the week, won’t have much to give others in the church, and won’t have ears to hear what the Lord is saying through others.
It’s easy to say, “just read your Bible and pray every day,” but it can be much harder actually to do in real life. Whether we ever meet or not, I hope you’re in the word, and the word is getting into you!
Something that has really helped me to read every day for the last 25 years is The One Year Bible. The video below is my own personal testimony of this invaluable resource:

Let’s Meet And Break The Ice
Are you interested in this kind of fellowship? Then let’s meet for coffee or snacks at a local cafe and get to know each other. Depending on your church background, whether heavenly or haunting, you’ll probably have questions and concerns, and it would be good to address those in a safe, commitment-free environment.
I can be reached using the contact form on this site, or if you’d prefer to call, try 480-442-4713. I get a ton of spam so leave a message if I don’t answer, and I’ll get back to you. We’ll set up a time to meet and go from there.
If you’re still reading, thank you. May the Lord direct your steps to the fellowship he wants you to be part of!
