ONE LESS EXCUSE
People can find you online if you have a website or blog. But most small churches don’t have a tech wiz to build and maintain one. Nor do they have the budget to hire it out. But fear not! Canva just might be the answer to your website prayers.
What is Canva? Canva is an online design and publishing tool that launched in 2013. Its mission is to empower everyone in the world to design anything and publish anywhere.
CANVA: CREATE MORE ON A BUDGET
I’d heard about Canva for years but didn't explore it because I already had other creative programs. I had no idea Canva could do all it does. I now have a Canva Pro account and use it daily in my marketing and ministry work.
WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH CANVA?
It’s almost easier to tell what it can’t do! Here’s a list of the features included with every Canva plan - even the free plan:
Docs
Whiteboards
Presentations
Image Design
Video
Print
Websites
And Canva has hundreds of pre-made templates to help make the most design-challenged among us look like true artists.
CANVA FREE OR PRO?
I started with a Free account to see how well I got along with it. It’s straightforward, loaded with templates and options, and built-in training to get anyone creating quickly!
I’ve purchased so many creative design programs over the years only to find they were too complicated or too limited for the price, which makes Canva unique—so many tools in one place.
After a month or so of the free version, I upgraded to a Pro account and used Rakuten to save a little more.
A Pro account gives you access to everything. No restrictions. At the time of this writing, a Pro account is $12.99/mo, or you can purchase an annual plan for $119.99 and save 16%.
REAL CANVA WEBSITE EXAMPLES
Here are a couple of real-world examples of Canva websites. Keep in mind that these are simple sites; they will not compete with complex WordPress sites, but they can give you an attractive, fast-loading website:
I use NameCheap for domain registration and hosting, which you’ll need to make your site your own. Canva might offer those services, but I’d compare pricing to NameCheap before purchasing.
One thing a Canva website doesn’t have (yet) is a blog option. You can make a free blog with TypeShare or several other options. Another option that is very easy to use is JetPage which I used to create this blog post you’re reading now.
ONE LESS EXCUSE
Making a website, stunning graphics, or an engaging presentation just got elementary school easy with Canva. So unleash the creative digital evangelist in you and get online with confidence.
